Getting to the racecourse
By rail + shuttle
Free shuttle bus from the station
The racecourse runs a complimentary shuttle bus between Thirsk station and the course on every raceday. It starts about two hours before the first race and keeps running after the last race, picking up from the coach park at the far side of the course.
On foot
From the town or station
It's roughly half a mile from the station to the course — a walkable 10–15 minutes if you'd rather skip the queue for the shuttle.
By car
A61, west of town
Sat nav postcode YO7 1QL. The course sits between Carlton Miniott and the town centre on the A61 Thirsk–Ripon road. All racecourse parking is free — the Public car park is on the south side of Station Road, behind the main stands.
By bus
Routes 30 and 70
Local bus routes 30 and 70 also serve the racecourse from the town centre, on top of the dedicated raceday shuttle.
Taxi tips for race days
This is the one time of year the Market Place rank and every local firm can be busy at once — the whole town's demand spikes together, right as a few thousand extra people leave the course within the same half hour.
- Book your return journey before you set off in the morning, not after the last race. Firms fill up fast once racing finishes.
- Give a specific pickup point and a realistic time — "after racing finishes" isn't precise enough when several thousand people are thinking the same thing.
- The free shuttle bus and the local bus routes are worth using for the racecourse leg itself; save taxi bookings for onward journeys the buses don't cover, like getting home to a village.

💡 Local Tip
The evening meeting is deceptive — it starts late and finishes later, well after the shuttle bus has wound down for the day and after most people have already gone home. If you're staying for that one, book a taxi for after the last race specifically, not "sometime this evening."
